Facilitating partnerships with Hispanic/Latino communities in Missouri

ALIANZAS CULTURAL ACADEMY

The Alianzas Cultural Academy is a thought-provoking and engaging class for anyone who wants to enhance his or her knowledge about the Hispanic/Latino culture, learn about the influences and challenges associated with the demographic shifts in Missouri communities, the Cultural Reality Model, and basic Spanish language comprehension.

In 2009, Alianzas launched the first Alianzas Cultural Academy held from January 14-16 at the Guadalupe Centers, Inc.  Alianzas partnered with Lisa Zajur, founder of the Spanish Academy and Cultural Institute in Virginia, who presented the "Awaken the Spanish Within®" language and cultural training program based on the patent-pending system of learning called Voice Tonality™ Technology.

• At the 2009 Alianzas Cultural Academy, participants had the opportunity to:
• Learn about programming that facilitates partnerships with Hispanic/Latino communities in Missouri,
• Explore features of the Hispanic/Latino culture,
• Discuss why culture matters,
• Identify strategies for conducting outreach to, and establishing personal relationships with Hispanics/Latinos,
• Learn the basic foundations of the Spanish language and related terms and phrases, and
• Tour local Hispanic/Latino-serving agencies to learn about their challenges, successes and strategies.
